Dr. Mark Roberts worked at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, internationally renowned cancer centers, as a grant-funded physician-scientist focusing on biology and treatment response of childhood leukemias. He then expanded his efforts to physician executive leadership positions that emphasized research and medical education working in Long Beach, California. In 2009, Mark completed a Masters of Medical Management, an executive MBA for physicians, at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, graduating first in his class. Mark came to Idaho in January, 2012 to become the inaugural Medical Director for Research at St. Luke’s Health System. This was subsequently expanded to include oversight for Medical Education for physicians-in-training, medical students, physician assistant students and nurse practitioner students. In addition to expanding clinical trials in a number of specialty areas within St. Luke’s, numbering around 200 active projects, Mark has created collaborations with small business and academic partners, including Boise State University and Idaho State University, to create an applied research program, testing clinical and business concepts for the new healthcare delivery system population health model. Mark and his physician wife Dr. Jennifer Gotto joined the BAA and became members of the Capital City Angel Fund in 2013.
Mr. Steven D. Simpson. Steve serves as member of the Board of Directors of Conex MPS, Inc. Mr. Simpson has more than two decades of experience as a senior executive of public and private companies. Mr. Simpson began his technology career in 1975 at Electronic Data Systems as a systems engineer. In this role he was responsible for applications in a banking environment. In 1978 he joined Hewlett-Packard where he held a number of positions including General Manager of HP’s multibillion dollar midrange and low end LaserJet printer business. Mr. Simpson then joined Extended Systems, Inc. serving as the Chief Executive Officer and President from January 1996 to August 19, 2003. During his tenure he led the company’s successful IPO. Mr. Simpson was a captain in the U.S. Air Force, and holds an MBA from the University of Wyoming.
Phil is an Investor in and Board Member of several early stage software companies. From 1995 until its acquisition by Microsoft in 2006 he was CFO and co-founder of ProClarity Corporation, an early pioneer in Analytics. Prior to ProClarity he served three years as CFO of Extended Systems and 18 years as an Audit Partner with Deloitte & Touche, He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
Steve Sedlacek, Director
Steve Sedlacek is a consultant for Currant Creek Consulting. He has invested in both the Treasure Valley Angel Fund as well as the Capitol City Angel Fund, of which he is Chair. Mr. Sedlacek is an Environmental Engineer, who has worked for companies such as Republic Services, CH2M Hill, and Sanitary Service, Inc. Steve graduated from University of Washington with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Heath, and then from Washington State University with a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
Mark L. Bathrick directs a nationwide aviation services business for the federal government and is a recognized leader in unmanned aircraft applications and program management. Prior to his current position, Mark completed a career as a decorated Navy fighter pilot, experimental test pilot, multiple squadron commander, and installation commander, retiring as a Captain. Mark was the first public sector executive to receive the International Dale Carnegie Leadership Award and was responsible for championing the development of the first Tri-Service Joint Base. Organizations he has stewarded have received numerous recognitions including best Navy installation worldwide and top federal aviation program. Mark holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and an executive MBA from Boise State University (BSU), where he also serves as an Affiliate with the BSU Centre for Creativity and Innovation.
Vina T Rathbone joined the board of the Boise Angel Alliance in 2016, to serve the organization in its efforts to engage the community and build strategic partnerships. Her involvement in the BAA began in 2014, when she began serving as a proxy, and as a member of the Screening Committee. Vina is a graduate of Willamette University with a degree in Art History and Anthropology. She spent three years living in Buenos Aires, Argentina working remotely as a headhunter for tech PR professionals. Back stateside in 2013, she started a branding agency, ATOM, offering full digital design and marketing solutions to clients. In 2014 she joined Vacasa, a rapid-growth startup and built the international division, expanding the company into three new continents. Her other entrepreneurial ventures include an arts tourism company: Buenos Aires Art Tours, and she consults on e-commerce, and digital marketing. She currently spends her days as a team member of advertising agency Drake Cooper.
